Verboten!

Verboten!

The purple pins are places you can't or at least shouldn't go.

These places are on this list for one or more of the following reasons:

  • legally prohibited
  • private property
  • dangerous, toxic, or just plain stupid

Verboten is German for forbidden. In French that would be interdite, which probably has never stopped anybody. It certainly never stopped the Germans. Deutsche is a fine sledgehammer of a language.

Sedges and Reeds are superficially similar, but actually quite different. But unless you are a biologist - who cares? ( Reeds are grasses, sedges are sedges. )

Sedges

Sedges tolerate a wide range of salinity, from freshwater to seawater, although they seem to grow best in brackish water. So, like above, if you are exploring a bay or inlet, that stuff all around you is most likely sedge.
